My 1st student job – UK experience
Student Jobs?
Being a student is expensive! Not only the studies and the books and all the other study related costs –but hey we need to live! Renting is not cheap and we need something to wear and a bite to eat. Well… I think that it is more than OK to work as student! So go and look for your 1st student job. I really liked the below Video on YouTube. It’s talking about – How To Find The Best Jobs On Campus (see below). This is quite a good video by ABC News – I think it’s worth watching. This video is about 11 minutes – so seat back and relax while your watching.
Why is it worthwhile to get a student job?
You may meet some interesting people
You can make new friends
You experience working and making money – this is an important step to being able to take care of yourself
Life is more interesting when you do something different then just learn, learn, learn…
You learn to appreciate what you got. It is awesome if your parents can help you all the way – but in my experience (don’t get mad at me), students that got too much help – became a bit spoiled and failed to appreciate their good fortune.
You never know where it might lead! I had a friend that started learning computer science and after getting to work with kids on a horse farm – he realized that he will be much more happier in life, if he would work with children
Getting a student job is great
My 1st student job – in a pub
For my degree I went to Buckingham in England (and there I got my 1st student job) . Buckingham is about an hour and half away from London. Well I tried to careful with my money – but I understood very quickly that it not going last long enough. I spent about a year or two saving this money with some quite hard working – but once you get going a student there are lots of expenditures.
Well the good thing about the UK is that people just love drinking and going to the Pub. And I was lucky enough to find a job in pulling drinks in a small and friendly pub. Well I was a foreigner in the UK, I took me sometime to make some new friends – and the Pub was a great place to start.
Firstly it is not surprising that after a drink or two or six people tend to get friendlier – and if they were some barriers they tend to drop down quickly.
So… I met some really nice people around my age, I had free drinks and I was making money – who can ask for more. I know that I wasn’t making millions – but it was a great experience!!!
If I wasn’t in need for some cash, I wouldn’t have got know all those people. I think as well that by working in this small local Pub, I got to understand and get a small glimpse of the English…
Many tourists just go to London – and think that this is the UK. But this is a huge mistake! The English folks that live in the country areas away from London are much friendlier and warm. The people that I have met were really friendly – not just pretend! They were really interested in how I was, invited me to their home and became my friends!
